Case study: installing a RecharjME cabin in a hospital

Home / Blog / Case study: installing a RecharjME cabin in a hospital

Fatigue and stress levels are particularly high among healthcare workers, prompting the development of new solutions to support front-line employee well-being. To help prevent burnout and recognize the dedication of hospital staff, some healthcare facilities have chosen to install RecharjME rest cabins on their premises. How is this innovative solution implemented, and what impact does it have?

Solutions supporting front-line worker well-being

Analysis and understanding of the innovation

Initial discussions generally take place with the hospital’s human resources team, since they are often most familiar with employee fatigue, stress and absenteeism levels. This first conversation provides an opportunity to introduce the innovative service and establish an initial connection.

Other stakeholders may also need to validate technical information, including the cabin’s dimensions, sanitation requirements and electricity consumption. These discussions generally involve infection prevention and control, security, hygiene and sanitation teams.

Following these discussions, the project lead presents the collected information to the hospital or integrated health centre’s management team for approval.

Once the project is approved, an agreement is signed and the installation is scheduled.

Preparing the installation

Once the contracts are finalized, the RecharjME team manages the entire project. This includes validating the location of the cabins within the hospital, configuring the reservation platform and management portal, and manufacturing the cabins in the workshop.

Once everything is ready, the installation is scheduled. Installing a RecharjME rest cabin takes less than three hours, and the installation team works independently throughout the process.

After the cabins have been tested, an official launch is planned. During the launch, the RecharjME team is available on-site to answer questions, particularly about how the cabins work. This helps employees understand the concept and generates interest in the new service.

Cabin monitoring and support

RecharjME’s work does not end once the cabins are installed. The team remains available, particularly during the first month following installation, to ensure that the cabins are functioning properly.

Because RecharjME provides a turnkey solution, the team also handles maintenance. Several inspection visits are conducted throughout the contract. You may occasionally see members of the team in the hospital corridors.

Hospital project managers have access to a portal where they can monitor service usage in real time. Detailed usage statistics are also available.

Surveys are also conducted to better understand the service’s impact on users’ stress and fatigue levels.

Conclusions

RecharjME cabins have already found their place in many hospitals. Innovative, easy to implement and requiring few resources because they operate largely independently, the cabins provide a meaningful way to recognize healthcare workers. Unlike some other workplace mental health initiatives, RecharjME rest cabins offer a practical way to help reduce stress and fatigue among healthcare employees.

Fondation Santé Urbaine organized a cycling challenge to fund two RecharjME rest cabins for employees of the CIUSSS du Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. The cabins were installed at Verdun Hospital and Notre-Dame Hospital.

The names of the cyclists appear on the cabins in recognition of their involvement.

The cabins have served more than 600 users and recorded nearly 3,000 reservations.
